CBNNews.com - GAZA STRIP - A Palestinian sniper shot an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldier in the hand during a counter-terror operation early Wednesday morning in the Gaza Strip. The soldier was evacuated to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba.
Soldiers from the Givati Brigade and Armored Corp worked overnight near the Sufa border crossing with Gaza and engaged in several fire fights with Palestinian terror cells in the area.
The IAF responded to rounds of mortar shells fired on western Negev communities by targeting the terror cells' launch sites. In two separate air strikes, three Palestinian terrorists were killed.
Islamic Jihad reported that one of its members was killed and three wounded, while Hamas said two of its gunmen were killed and four others wounded in the strikes.
On Wednesday afternoon, mortar shells continued falling on western Negev communities, one scoring a direct hit on a home in the Sha'ar Hanegev region. No one was injured in the attack.
Meanwhile, IDF soldiers operating overnight in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) took 12 Palestinian terror suspects into custody. The detainees will be interrogated by Israeli security forces.
