JERUSALEM, Israel - The Jerusalem Municipality razed two illegally built homes in the Arab neighborhood of Silwan, Wednesday.
Local Arab residents pelted the demolition crews, which worked under heavy police guard, with rocks and a firebomb.
Police used stun grenades to subdue to crowd, and five policemen were injured and a police horse stabbed during the altercation.
The municipality carried out the demolitions after the court rejected appeals and issued a court order to raze the structures.
According to a statement by the municipality, it has demolished 78 illegally built residences in primarily Arab neighborhoods in east Jerusalem and 30 in west Jerusalem neighborhoods.
The homes were built in "green areas," set aside for city parks, where construction is forbidden.
