Hamas Wants to Extend Truce

JERUSALEM, Israel - Hamas will likely choose to extend the six-month tadhiyeh with Israel, which expires in December.

According to the Israeli daily Haaretz, a Hamas official said it would like to continue the temporary calm until it resolves its differences with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah faction.

Hamas has said little recently when IDF counter-terror forces operating in Judea and Samaria arrest Hamas members.

While the Gaza-based terror group would like to see the border crossings opened, it continues to smuggle weaponry and goods through the tunnels, most of which have been dug near the Rafah crossing between Gaza and the Egyptian Sinai.

The cessation of the IDF's counter-terror operations in the Gaza Strip has freed Hamas to focus on consolidating its rule in Gaza and strengthening its presence in Judea and Samaria for the future.
