CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - Former Israeli ambassador to the United States Danny Ayalon believes Israeli Arabs living in the Galilee may one day declare their independence.
"If the Israeli government doesn't make sure there is a Jewish majority in the Galilee, the Arab majority could declare independence and international recognition based on the precedent of Ossetia and Abkhazia," Ayalon said at a press conference in Carmiel, near the northern port city of Haifa.
Ayalon made the prediction at a press conference marking his first appearance since joining the Yisrael Beiteinu party, which he described as a "center-right" party.
Prior to serving as Israeli ambassador to the US, Ayalon was deputy foreign policy advisor and chief foreign policy advisor in former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's government.
Ayalon also serves as co-chairman of Nefesh b'Nefesh (soul to soul), an organization that helps North American Jews make aliyah.
