JERUSALEM, Israel - Israeli Minister of Education Gideon Sa'ar (Likud) will be teaching once a week in schools throughout the country to experience the nation's educational system firsthand.
Sa'ar hopes to better understand the reality of classroom teaching, such as overcrowded classes and shortage of staffing experienced by some of the country's 120,000 educators, to enable the ministry to prioritize the school system's needs.
"I believe that the teacher is the spearhead of education and that teaching is the most important vocation," Sa'ar said.
"For me, it is a way to convey this message, while getting to know the system better," he said.
"I plan to teach at a different school every week and thus experience what the teachers are experiencing," the education minister said.
