RAFAH BORDER CROSSING - Egyptian border guards, searching the luggage of a Hamas delegation returning from cease-fire negotiations in Cairo, discovered $9 million and 2 million euros in cash.
According to an Egyptian security official, the group tried unsuccessfully to prevent border police from searching their gear.
Egyptian authorities allowed one member of the delegation to remain in Egypt with the cash, while the others returned to the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, despite earlier declarations of having accepting Egypt's proposal for a longer-term cease-fire with Israel, the delegation left Cairo without an agreement.
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak sent the ministry's Diplomatic-Security Bureau chief back to Cairo to discuss the Islamic group's latest demands.
Muhammed Nasser, a senior member of the Hamas delegation, said the group was returning to the Gaza Strip without having reached an agreement and did not know when they would be returning to Cairo.
