CBNNews.com - Israel Defense Forces (IDF) troops stationed along the northern border are on heightened alert as Lebanese-based Hezbollah terrorists mark the anniversary of the death of the group's senior commander Imad Mugniyeh.
Mugniyeh died when a bomb exploded in his car in an upscale residential neighborhood in Damascus one year ago on February 12, 2008.
Though Israel denied any involvement in the incident, Hezbollah has sworn to avenge his death on Israeli and Jewish targets worldwide.
"Hezbollah views Israel as responsible for Mugniyeh's assassination and has vowed to avenge his death," one security official said.
The Counter-Terrorism Bureau issued guidelines for Israelis living abroad, which are posted on the Prime Minister's Office Web site.
Security precautions for Israeli officials traveling abroad have also been stepped up.
Mugniyeh's widow said Syria was behind the assassination.
