CBNNews.com - KABATIYA, West Bank - Israel Defense Forces (IDF) forces operating in the Palestinian Authority-controlled town of Kabatiya, south of Jenin, overnight on Wednesday killed a senior Islamic Jihad commander.
According to media reports, troops entered the home of Ala Abu Rov, Islamic Jihad's senior commander in the town.
Rov, who was fully armed, opened fire on the troops and was killed in the ensuing gun battle.
Two weeks ago, the IDF arrested five members of the terror cell led by Abu Rov. They may have helped locate him.
"Security forces have been trying to get their hands on Abu Rov for some time now. The intelligence gathered on him and the cell he commanded was concrete," one IDF official told YNet news.
"We know for a fact that he was plotting an attack against Israel's home front," he said.
The counter-terror operation was a joint undertaking by the Shin Bet (General Security Agency), IDF soldiers from the Duvdevan undercover unit and the Nahal Haredi infantry unit.
A search of the house turned up explosive devices, firearms, ammunition and a flak jacket.
