CBNNews.com - KOCHAV HASHAHAR, Israel - An Arab gunman critically wounded an Israeli man in a drive-by shooting east of the Palestinian Authority- (PA) controlled city of Ramallah.
Moshe Avitan and his wife were en route to their home in Kochav Hashahar when Arab gunmen pulled up along side their car and shot him in the head.
Avitan's wife was able to drive them to their community, where Magen David Adom paramedics treated him before he was transported by helicopter to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital.
"He was conscious at first, but his condition deteriorated," MDA paramedic Tzuri Hezi said. "He said he couldn't see so we sedated and resuscitated him," he said.
Yeshua Council (representing Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria) head Gershon Mesika responded to the attack.
"The wholesale release of Palestinian prisoners and the helplessness of [outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's] government in fighting terror are fueling these attacks," Mesika said.
"The disengagement war is unfortunately going on in Judea and Samaria [the West Bank]," the Yeshua Rabbinical Council said.
A rock-throwing incident earlier Monday at an Israeli bus traveling south of Nablus [biblical Shechem] damaged the vehicle, but no passengers were injured.
