Israeli Soldier Escapes Kidnapping

Ad Feedback - GAZA STRIP - A Golani Brigades soldier escaped an attempted kidnapping by Hamas terrorists, Israel Radio reported Monday.

During the night, Golani soldiers entered a house in northern Gaza, which they knew from intelligence briefings served as a Hamas command center.

Inside the house were entrances to several smuggling tunnels, some connecting to nearby buildings.

One soldier followed several gunmen into a tunnel, where he found himself entrapped.

In the ensuing firefight, he managed to hold them at bay until reinforcements arrived to help him.

The soldiers, with the support of two helicopter gunships, thwarted the attempted kidnapping, Israel Radio reported.

Meanwhile, Hamas leaked a rumor to the press over the weekend that they'd captured two Israeli soldiers. Reuters reported the alleged abduction.

The IDF Spokesperson's Office said it doesn't respond to rumors and if a kidnapping were to occur, the IDF would report it to the public through the proper channels.
