JERUSALEM, Israel - Israel Defense Forces (IDF) troops at the Beitar checkpoint near the PA-controlled city of Bethlehem killed an Israeli Arab driver after he attempted to run them over.

According to the IDF's Spokesperson's Office, the driver sped through the checkpoint, ignoring the soldiers' call to stop for a routine check.

Troops initiated a search, locating the vehicle at a gas station near the checkpoint. Again, they motioned for the driver to stop, but he accelerated and attempted to run over them.

The troops first fired warning shots in the air and then at the vehicle's tires, but the driver continued trying to run them down.

Finally, the soldiers took aim at him. Paramedics arriving at the scene confirmed his death.

One soldier was injured in the incident, and the IDF is investigating the incident.
