An Israeli group is urging American immigrants there not to pass up voting in the key midterm elections this November in the U.S.
The American Israeli Action Coalition hopes to reach some 100,000 Americans living in Israel through its "Get Out the Vote" campaign.
Unlike their Jewish counterparts in the U.S., the majority of Americans in Israel tend to vote Republican. But organizers say the voter registration drive is about more than party lines.
"This is not based upon politics. It's not anti-anybody," AIAC chairman Harvey Schwartz said. "This is pro-American and the right of American-Israelis to exercise their vote."
The AIAC also intends to host debates between Democratic and Republican representatives, just as the group did before the 2008 U.S. presidential election.
