JERUSALEM, Israel - The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) monthly summary revealed a significant increase in Palestinian terror attacks in March.
The report reveals 128 attacks took place in March compared to 61 in February and 83 in January.
While attacks, including stabbings, shootings, bombings, etc., occurred countrywide, the majority were rocket and mortar shell attacks from Gaza-based Palestinians - 50 in March compared with 18 in February. Longer-range Grad-type Katyusha rockets targeted Ashkelon and Beersheva.
Jerusalem area residents suffered 42 terror attacks in March and 20 in February. Palestinians in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) pulled off 36 attacks in March and 23 in February.
Five of six fatalities in March occurred in Itamar, where Udi and Ruth Fogel and three of their five children were murdered in their home on the eve of the Sabbath.
The sixth fatality was Mary Gardner, a Scottish Christian on a 6-month study program in Israel, killed in a bus bombing in Jerusalem. Twenty-three Israelis were wounded in the attack.
Mortar shell and rocket attacks injured two others and an Israeli security officer was killed in a rock-throwing attack in Judea.
