JERUSALEM, Israel - Israel's Foreign Ministry posted a preliminary list of archaeological excavations scheduled for 2011. The ministry updates the posting periodically.
The list includes descriptions of the dig, available lodging in the area, excavation dates, directors, contact numbers and other pertinent information for volunteers who would like to participate in the expeditions.
The preliminary listing of 17 digs throughout the country includes such biblical sites as Bethsaida, where Peter, Andrew and Philip were born and where Jesus performed many miracles; and Tell Es-Safi/Gath, home of the biblical Goliath.
At Wadi Hamam a mile west of the Sea of Galilee in the eastern lower Galilee the team will try to learn more about rural life from the ruins of the Roman-period village that once flourished there.
