JERUSALEM, Israel - Israeli aircraft targeted the terror infrastructure in the Gaza Strip "in response to the barrage of mortar shells, Kassam and Grad rockets fired from Gaza at the Israeli home front over the past week," the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) Spokesperson's Office said in a press release Monday morning.
"Overnight, IAF [Israel Air Force] aircraft targeted two terror tunnels, two weapons manufacturing and storage facilities and two additional terror activity sites across the Gaza Strip. Direct hits were confirmed," the statement read.
Hamas claimed women and children were among 19 civilians wounded, though the Israeli air force targeted specific terror sites in the overnight strikes.
According to the IDF, Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip have fired more than 130 mortars, Kassam and Grad rockets on southern Israel since the beginning of the year.
On Friday, a barrage of more than 50 mortars targeted southern Israeli communities.
