JERUSALEM, Israel -- A joint operation by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) and the Israel Defense Forces uncovered a Hamas terror cell whose members include employees of the Palestinian Red Crescent emergency rescue service.

Israeli forces arrested 13 cell members involved in a shooting attack in January against an IDF unit in Ramallah. There were no injuries, but the shooters damaged an army vehicle.

Among the Red Crescent employees taken into custody is the goalie of the Palestinian Olympic soccer team. Another suspect, who is in charge of security guards at Red Crescent, also worked as an officer in Palestinian intelligence in Ramallah and is thought to be a weapons dealer.

The detainees admitted to planning more attacks against IDF soldiers at varied locations, including Nablus (biblical Shechem), Ofra, and Ma'aleh Adumim.
