Israeli DM: Nuclear Iran More Dangerous than Attack

JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak alluded to a possible military strike on Iran if sanctions don't work.

In a graduation ceremony at the National Security College Wednesday, Barak said Israel may have to make tough decisions about its national security because diplomacy and economic sanctions "are not enough to stop Iran's nuclear program."

"I am well aware of the difficulties and complexities involved in stopping Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, but it is abundantly clear to me that dealing with the situation when it unfolds would be substantially more complex, more dangerous and more costly both to lives and resources," the defense minister told the graduates.

Barak said the world needs to act quickly to stop Iran from fulfilling its nuclear aspirations, adding that "the U.S. understands that the State of Israel -- and only the State of Israel -- is responsible for its fate."
