TEL AVIV, Israel -- Israeli officials believe Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad's regime is using chemical weapons against rebel forces. The revelation came during a conference in Tel Aviv on Tuesday.
Brig.-Gen. Itai Baron heads the research division of Israeli military intelligence.
Speaking in Hebrew, Baron said Assad has a huge arsenal of chemical weapons at his disposal.
"We believe the regime has, and is using, chemical weapons," he said.
According to Baron, Syrian government forces probably even used poisonous Sarin gas.
In response, however, senior American officials say it is not yet clear if that's the case.
President Obama has said if Syria uses chemical weapons, they would be crossing a red line.
