JERUSALEM, Israel -- Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reminded the populace again Thursday that Israel is prepared to defend itself against any eventuality.
"We are not involved in the civil war in Syria, but I would like to reiterate if anyone tries to harm Israel's citizens, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) will respond with great strength," Netanyahu said.
IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz also said Israel is ready on all fronts to protect the nation from aggressive regimes.
"We have no part in the events taking place nearby to us," Gantz said, "but in the event that fire is directed at Israel, it's clear to every leader in our region and in the whole world that the price will be heavy and the losses of the enemy will be stinging and difficult," he said, "…and we are prepared for every scenario."
Meanwhile, despite their differences, rival Palestinian factions, Fatah and Hamas, are both opposed to a U.S. military strike against the Syrian regime, saying in essence it would only benefit Israel because dividing Syria would weaken Arab "resistance" against the Jewish state.
