JERUSALEM, Israel -- At 10:05 a.m. Thursday, a 90-second air raid siren sounded in cities and towns throughout the country as Israeli students took part in an emergency drill simulating rocket and missile attacks.
The Home Front Command, working with the Ministry of Education, municipalities, Magen David Adom staff (Israel's national emergency rescue service), and police and fire personnel planned and carried out the two-hour drill.
The focus of the exercise was to drill students on getting to protected areas, such as bomb shelters or safe rooms, quickly, calmly, and efficiently.
The drill also included instruction for teachers and school staff on coping skills during a rocket or missile attack.
