JERUSALEM, Israel -- Thousands of soldiers, police, intelligence agencies and emergency medical personnel took part in a countrywide drill on Sunday simulating massive jihadi terrorist attacks on the borders.

The exercise drilled responses to scenarios from commandeering buildings, kidnappings, mass shootings and the like, simulating dozens of civilian deaths and injuries.

The drill focused particularly on the borders, where Islamist jihadists from Syria and Lebanon in the north to Egypt and Hamas in the south would attempt to infiltrate Israeli towns to kill and kidnap hostages and kill civilians.

Within an approximate four-hour time frame, participants drilled responses to warnings from military Intelligence requiring coordination between the various forces, assessing hostage situations, moving troops from one location to another, treating wounded civilians and soldiers, etc.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz and other top commanders took part in the exercise.
