A Palestinian gunman shot an elderly man in the legs near the Samarian town of Kedumim Monday, moderately wounding him.

Magen David Adom (Israel's national rescue service) paramedics treated him at the scene before evacuating him to a hospital in Petah Tikva.

Israel Defense Forces troops set up roadblocks as they began canvassing the area for the perpetrators, who shot him from a vehicle.

Since the beginning of the year, the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) has seen a significant increase in acts of terror in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem -- especially rock attacks, firebombs, knifings and drive-by shootings.

Last Thursday, a rock attack near the city of Ariel caused a major car accident that left a 3-year-old toddler fighting for her life. She remains hospitalized in critical condition, with doctors still fighting to save her.

On the same day, a couple and their 10-month-old baby were injured by rocks, as was a man in Jerusalem's French Hill neighborhood.
