JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israeli pilots targeted a weapons manufacturing plant and two arms-smuggling tunnels in the Gaza Strip Wednesday morning, identifying direct hits.
The retaliatory strikes took place after Gaza-based Palestinian Arabs fired rockets at soldiers along the security fence.
"This morning, IDF [Israel Defense Force] soldiers came under terrorist fire while engaging in a counter-terrorism activity," IDF spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said in a statement.
"Attempts at attacking soldiers will not, by any means, be tolerated by the IDF. The IDF maintains the right to combat terrorists abusing the Gaza Strip as a springboard for such attacks against Israeli civilians and its forces," the statement concluded.
