JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israel hopes the Obama administration's decision to cut aid to Egypt won't harm the historic peace accord between the two countries.
The United States is considering cutting hundreds of millions of dollars in aid to Egypt in response to the interim government's crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood.
"I hope this decision by the United States will not have an effect and won't be interpreted as something that should have an effect" on the treaty, Israeli Home Front Minister Gilad Erdan told Israel Radio.
Erdan said that relations remain as close as ever, and they continue to cooperate in military and political spheres.
The spokesman for Egypt's Foreign Ministry said they would not surrender to American pressure to cut funding.
