Israeli Hospital Saving Palestinian Children's Lives

JERUSALEM, Israel - Despite Israeli-Palestinian tensions over the terrorist abduction of three Israeli teenagers, Israeli doctors of Save a Child's Heart (SACH) are continuing to provide life-saving care to Palestinian children free of cost at the Wolfson Medical Center near Tel Aviv, the organization said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Children are children," Dr. Lior Sasson, SACH chief surgeon, said. "For us it doesn't matter where the children come from. Every child deserves to receive the best medical treatment and children from both sides shouldn't be a part of the conflict."

SACH brings children from countries where heart surgeries are unavailable to Israel for life-saving treatment, including from countries that have no diplomatic relations with Israel or even consider Israel an enemy state.

Since the three Israeli teens were abducted nearly two weeks ago, three Palestinian children have undergone life-saving surgery. Eight Palestinian children were admitted, including two urgent cases, which arrived by ambulance from Judea and Samaria and from the Gaza Strip.

On Tuesday, two children from Judea and Samaria, also known as the West Bank, were scheduled to undergo open heart surgery and another 15 were expected to arrive to SACH's free weekly cardiology clinic for Palestinian children, the group said.

"We are continuing with our work," said Sasson. "This is what distinguishes us as Israelis -- the ability to ignore what is happening around and continue with our sacred work of saving children's lives."
