Palestinian Terrorist Opens Fire at Israeli Checkpoint

JERUSALEM, Israel -- A Palestinian Arab opened fire on an Israeli Border Police officer at the Tapuach junction in the pre-dawn hours Tuesday morning, injuring one officer before being killed by return fire.

Last Friday, Border Policemen captured and disarmed a suicide bomber at the same checkpoint.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, who was in the vicinity at the time of the attack, heard the exchange of fire and came to the checkpoint.

Critics have charged that the Obama administration's decision to support the Fatah-Hamas unity government will further embolden terror cells in Judea and Samaria, as evidenced by the recent increase in terror-related incidences.

In an emergency meeting Monday evening, Israel's Security Cabinet authorized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to impose additional sanctions on the P.A. and hold its leadership responsible "for all actions that harm the security of Israel" in Judea, Samaria, and the Gaza Strip.

The Security Cabinet also established a team "to consider ways of action given the new reality that has been created and ahead of diplomatic and security situations that will be created in the future."
