JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israel Defense Forces soldiers on the Golan Heights were put on high alert Wednesday after troops thwarted terrorists attempted to plant bombs near the northern border fence with Syria.

Soldiers fired tank shells, injuring two of the three-member cell. The IDF posted footage of the terrorists approaching the security fence carrying explosives.

Earlier this week, suspected Hezbollah terrorists fired two rockets at the Golan Heights from Syria.

Some believe the increase in terror activity near the border is in retaliation for a recent suspected Israeli airstrike on a weapons convoy en route to Lebanon.

It's not the first time the IDF attacked Syrian convoys transporting rockets and missiles to the Lebanese-based Iranian proxy.
