JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israel and the United States conducted an intercept test of the Arrow 2 anti-missile defense system on Tuesday, the Israeli government announced in a press release on Tuesday.

The Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) and the U.S. Missile Defense Agency conducted the intercept test of the Arrow 2 missile defense system.

"The Arrow 2 is an operational system currently providing the Arrow Weapon System with an interceptor engagement capability, and the test was conducted at an Israeli test range over the Mediterranean Sea," the statement read.

Tuesday's test consisted of launching an Arrow 2 missile on a preplanned flight sequence.

Program engineers are now analyzing the test results.

The statement said Tuesday's test results have no effect on Israel's operational systems capability to cope with existing threats in the area. The test centered on an improved version of the joint U.S.-Israeli AWS, developed to counter future threats.

Israel Aerospace Industries, in conjunction with Boeing, Elta and Elbit/Elisra, is the primary contractor for developing and integrating the Arrow Weapons System.
