JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israel's Health Ministry wants to ban electronic cigarettes from being produced, imported, marketed or advertised here in Israel.

According to the Jerusalem Post, a bill to that effect was published on Sunday.

The popularity of e-cigarettes in the U.S. is on the rise and some say e-cigarette sales could surpass the sale of conventional cigarettes within three years.

But after studying the issue, Israel's Health Ministry says that instead of being beneficial for helping smokers quit, electron cigarettes are "dangerous products," containing chemicals that pose a threat to public health, according to the report.
