JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israel Police and Border Police are working together to restore order and crack down on Arab residents of Jerusalem who've been targeting Jewish civilians and police with rocks and firebombs.

Rioting in Jerusalem intensified during the summer war with Hamas.

The death of 16-year-old Mohammed Sinokrot, hit in the head by a sponge bullet during one of the demonstrations, sparked hours of intense rioting in Wadi al-Joz, with protesters throwing rocks and gasoline bombs at police and passing vehicles.

Between Sunday and Tuesday, police arrested 26 suspects in Abu Tor, Isawiya and Silwan, including six minors.

Four of the offenders were charged with looting a convenience store and attempting to set tanks on fire at a gas station in French Hill. Three detainees were charged with pelting police officers with rocks in Silwan.

Since early July, an estimated 700 Arab residents of Jerusalem have been arrested. Most of the violence is taking place in predominantly Arab neighborhoods.
