JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israeli brain surgeons helped a professional violinist return to her first love.

Twenty years ago, violinist Naomi Elishuv was diagnosed with essential tremor.

Elishuv had been a violinist with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Chamber Orchestra and the Givatayim Conservatorium of Music in Tel Aviv. But the tremor forced her to stop playing professionally.

"My greatest love was playing the violin, but unfortunately until today, I have had to make do with teaching," Elishuv said before the surgery. "The tremor prevented me from playing professionally, and this was very difficult for a woman such as myself who was used to playing her entire life."

Prof. Yitzhak Fried, director of functional neurosurgery at Sourasky Medical Center in Tel Aviv, performed the surgery.
