JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israel Air Force pilots targeted four terrorists who had crossed the border from Syria Sunday night and were planting bombs in the Golan Heights near the Israeli-Syrian border.

The IDF ordered the airstrikes as soon as soldiers monitoring the infiltrators confirmed the four were planting explosives. The IDF confirmed that at least three and probably all four of the terrorists were killed in the strike, thereby averting a terror attack.

Following the incident, which occurred near the Druze village of Majdal Shams on the Golan, the IDF placed the area on high alert.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the IDF's quick response to the attempted attack.

"Any attempt to harm soldiers or civilians will meet a determined response, like the IDF's actions tonight, which foiled a terrorist attack," Netanyahu said. "I commend the soldiers for their vigilance, which resulted in a swift, accurate response."

The IDF Spokesman's Office also issued a statement saying "The IDF will not tolerate any attempt to infringe on Israeli sovereignty."
