Netanyahu Joins World Leaders at Climate Change Conference

JERUSALEM, Israel – Nearly 150 world leaders are in Paris for a climate change conference just weeks after ISIS claimed responsibility for terror attacks in the French capital that killed 130 people.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu left for Paris early Monday where he'll meet with several international leaders on the sidelines of the conference.

Meetings already scheduled during Netanyahu's one-day visit include Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Francois Holland, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and recently elected Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as well as Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydo.

Topping Putin's agenda will be combatting Islamic terror groups, the Russian paper Sputnik reported.

During a ceremony last week approving credentials of 15 new ambassadors, Putin said Russia "will continue to maintain contacts with the Israeli leadership to establish a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East [and] to share information on the anti-terrorism track."

Putin is satisfied with Russian-Israeli interaction, according to the report.

"Relations between our countries are at high level. In September, we held intense and very fruitful talks together with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. We agreed to deepen our cooperation in the spheres of industry, high-tech and agriculture," Putin said.

The two leaders met in September not long after Russia deployed troops and military paraphernalia to Syria to help battle ISIS, though many of its airstrikes have targeted anti-Syrian forces.

Netanyahu, accompanied by several senior military advisers, said at the time that Putin understands Israel's position vis-à-vis security along the northern border.

Turkey's decision to down a Russian warplane last week, ostensibly for entering its airspace, continues creating ripples of dissent between Turkey and Russia. Putin imposed economic sanctions against Turkey last week, saying he will find other trading partners, including Israel in wake of the attack.

Meanwhile, before leaving for Paris, Netanyahu instructed the Foreign Ministry to suspend contacts with the European Union until the dust settles on its recent decision to label Israeli products manufactured outside the 1949 pre-armistice lines as "not made in Israel."

Netanyahu called the E.U. decision "hypocritical." The prime minister returns to Israel late Monday.
