THE VATICAN - Pope John Paul II's passing led to a worldwide
outpouring of affection. Millions came to see him in Rome, and
that has caused many people to wonder: is there something deeper
behind this outpouring of affection?
Hinn said, "It's a very, very moving moment in history because
people all over the world are hungry for the Lord. You know, and
you see, the millions that are coming here now. They are saying
up to five million people will be here. And CNN asked me this
morning, why? One reason. People are looking for God.”
He continued, “Pope John Paul II pointed millions to Jesus
Christ when he was Pope. And I believe we're in for the greatest
move of the Spirit of God on this planet."
Hinn says that the spiritual hunger on display this week in Rome
and what he sees around the world provides a tremendous opportunity
for the church.
He said, "And people are just hungry and they're looking,
and I think it's our job as Christians to show them the way. To
say Jesus is the answer. And what a day we're living in. It's
amazing."
Hinn believes that the sovereign hand of God is behind this critical
transition in the papacy. He commented, "This present moment,
God Almighty has ordained that a new pope comes on the scene --
when the world is in such trouble. People are frightened by the
future. Nuclear war has been talked about. War here and there,
and troubles. Why now? Why did God decide to take this Pope home
now? There's a reason for it. My prayer is that God Almighty will
bring a fresh move of God to the church."
Hinn was asked, "How should people be praying for the election
of a new pope?"
