CBN.com (CBN News) - New York Yankees infielder Alex Rodriguez is the frequent target of boos at Boston's Fenway Park. But he is being hailed as a hero today, after saving an 8-year-old boy from being hit by a car.

Alex Rodriquez, known to his fans as "A Rod," was standing in a crosswalk in downtown Boston when he saw a boy start to run across the street into the path of an oncoming car.

A-Rod reached out and grabbed him. Rodriguez said, "I saw where he was going, and it was ugly, because that car was coming pretty fast, and I was getting out of the way, and I was able to stop him."

The boy's mom is grateful for A Rod's quick reflexes. Grace Pokito said, "It was such a natural thing from him. He saw this car and he didn't want this little boy to get hit. He was like, ‘Watch out, buddy.’"

But A Rod had no clue that he had just saved the life of a big Yankees fan, a rarity in Bean Town.

Patrick remarked, “We see him go over to these other people hugging him, and I was like, ‘Mom, that's Jorge Posada, Tino Martinez, and Randy Johnson.’"

How cool was that?

Patrick said, "Pretty cool. My favorite pitcher is Randy Johnson. I like Tino and I like the catcher Jorge Posada, and…my favorite player is Alex Rodriguez."

But A Rod does not care who he roots for, he is just happy that Patrick is ok.

Rodriguez said, "I'm just thankful for the little boy - that he's still around, I guess."
