Fatal Vision: Teens Lured by
Pornography

(CBN News) - Kids today are hit from everywhere with salacious
junk -- from video games, to MTV to the Internet. Teens cannot
seem to escape trashy pictures, even hard-core pornography. But
do today's teens feel as threatened by this sexually-charged world
as some of the older generation do? Some young people say sex,
even porn, is just part of the culture now.
Teenager Adrien said, “I feel sort of desensitized to it,
‘cause I grew up with it and it's everywhere. And I guess
I feel like it doesn't affect me, but I'm sure it does."
Bobby, a 20-year-old, remarked, "Used to, back in the day,
you'd look at a porn star and you'd be like – ugh! But now,
it's like, Wow, she's a porn star. I want to meet her."
Eleven-year-old Hunter commented, "There could be young
kids, younger than I am, and they could see this stuff and start
thinking it's ok and everything."
One study found that 70 percent of the nation's 15-to-17-year-olds
have looked at pornography online.
But for those teens who think viewing porn is not that bad, meet
Charlie. He spent 12 years in prison for sexual assault.
Charlie says it all began as a teen-ager, when he became hooked
on porn.
“It began with a person on my paper route showing me pornographic
material," he asserted.
Charlie said he was not hooked right away, “but my curiosity,
being a teen-ager, brought me back to see more. And the more you
see it, the more addicted you become. It doesn't take long."
Asked how it has affected his life, he replied, "Well, it
nearly destroyed it."
Charlie says the problem with porn is that, after a while, the
pictures do not satisfy any more. Eventually, you need to act
on what you are seeing.
Charlie said, "Well, pornography is very subtle. You don't
think it's going to hurt you, but the more you view it, the more
ingrained the images become. So, on a prolonged basis of viewing
such things, it will affect you. And it's going to reach a point
to where pictures will no longer stimulate you -- then, what you
do?”
Charlie, who gave his life to Jesus Christ in prison, and now
speaks out against porn, and says it is not a coincidence that
85 percent of all sex offenders behind bars used pornography.
But despite this alarming statistic, the media keeps pushing
porn in our children's faces, so says Ron Luce of Teen Mania Ministries.
In his new book, "The
Battle Cry for a Generation,” Luce says that Satan is
using porn in an all-out war to steal the souls of our young people.
Luce said, "Eighty percent of them now, who are regularly
on line, have had multiple exposures to hardcore pornography."
He warns that Christian kids are just as exposed, and just as
vulnerable to porn's affects as non-believing kids. And without
certain moral guidelines, he says, even Christian kids are basically
sitting ducks for the enemy.
Luce said, “So when they get an unsolicited sexual innuendo
in their email (one out of five kids do that are on-line regularly)
there's nothing that says, ‘Ooh, I shouldn't do that, that's
wrong,’ because there's no right or wrong. So they will
click that, and the next thing, and pretty soon, that world has
totally infected their minds, and pillaged them from any kind
of moral foundation, right or wrong."
There are things parents can do to protect their children. You
can make use of filters to block certain Internet sites (Association
of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP)), and use the
v-chip, which can block certain television channels.
The ASACP site also contains helpful articles, such as Internet
safety tips for kids, on its side bar list. But Luce says there
is no substitute for just knowing your kids’ business.
