Stay or Go? How Spouses Can Move Past Adultery

Most would say Gov. Mark Sanford's wife, Jenny, has been publicly humiliated by her husband's recent admission of infidelity.

But as a Christian, is she obligated to stay with him and repair their marriage?

This question of whether to stay or go in the shadow of adultery is a difficult one, says family therapist Dr. Linda Mintle.  Still, she explains that any marriage can be repaired if both spouses are willing to face their downfalls and submit themselves completely to God.

"It often is very, very difficult to come back from if the person who commits the adultery is not absolutely repentant and that is really the key," Mintle said.
