A Democratic panel has issued a strong endorsement of abortion in the party's platform for this election year.
The platform reads that the party "strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade." It also calls for no limits on using taxpayer funds to finance abortions.

The 51-page document also states that the party supports "a woman's right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of the ability to pay and we oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right."
Absent from the document is a line from the past platforms that says abortions should be safe, legal, and "rare."
Healthcare for All Americans
The platform also calls for healthcare for all Americans.
The 186-member panel reached a compromise on a healthcare policy when they drew up the document this weekend.
The document declares that compromise, stating that the party is "united behind a commitment that every man, woman, and child be guaranteed to have affordable comprehensive health care."
However, the compromise on the healthcare policy was reached without opposition and with no explanation of how universal health care would be guaranteed.
Party Chairman Howard Dean praised "the spirit of this compromise."
Party platforms are a statement of party principles. They are not binding on any of the candidates or the next president.
However, the document does include several of presumptive party nominee Barack Obama's proposals.
It also commits Democrats to a complete overhaul of the nation's immigration laws in the first year of the new administration.
According to the platform, the party also looks favorably on helping religious groups provide social services as long as "public funds are not used to proselytize or discriminate."
