The DNC presented the video as a reminder of lessons it believes the nation should never forget. It believes Democrats have solutions to the problems which still plague many residents of New Orleans and the gulf coast.

Carter spoke about a government that he believes failed the people after the hurricane and of how he thinks Barack Obama can bring new leadership to the nation. He also spoke about the spirit of volunteerism seen in the city where thousands of people have worked in New Orleans over the last few years to help residents recover.

Following the video President Carter and his wife Rosalynn made an appearance on the convention stage entering to the tune of  Georgia. The Carter's were warmly welcomed by several party leaders on the stage including Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. They waved to the crowd and greeted numerous people; however, the former president didn't speak.
