CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has won the Republican caucuses in West Virginia - the first prize of the day for the GOP in a nation-wide competition for delegates.
The win gives Huckabee all 18 West Virginia delegates. In the first contest decided on Super Tuesday, Huckabee beat Romney with 51.5 percent of the 1,133 delegates attending the state GOP's first-ever presidential nominating convention.
Romney was backed by 47.4 percent.
Despite a distant ranking in national polling, Huckabee won a convention majority after McCain's supporters threw their votes behind him.
