CBNNews.com - DALLAS - A police motorcycle officer died after a crash while escorting Hillary Rodham Clinton's motorcade to a campaign rally.

"I have just learned of the death of a Dallas police officer in a devastating accident," Clinton told reporters at a Dallas rally. "We are just heartsick over this loss of life in the line of duty."

The crash happened around 9 a.m. Friday. Senior Corporal Victor Lozada Tirado was killed after crashing into a concrete barrier near downtown Dallas, according to police spokesman Lt. Vernon Hale. Aerial video showed emergency vehicles around the damaged police motorcycle.

Tirado was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Clinton said she planned to cut short a rally in Fort Worth, Texas, in order to visit the officer's family, as well as call the police chief to express her sympathy.

"This reminds us once again what the men and women in law enforcement do every single day," Clinton said. "It is important that we respect and appreciate their service.

"I certainly am grateful for all they do for me and, more importantly, they do for the citizens of cities like Dallas and across the country," she said. "I just want to express my deepest condolences to the family and the Dallas police department for this tragic, tragic accident."

Tirado joined the Dallas force in December 1988. He is survived by his wife and four children.
