Well before Sen. John McCain was declared the winner of South Carolina's primary, Fred Thompson thanked his supporters for their hard work.

"I want to thank everybody who's been involved in what we're doing ... want to thank my supporters in South Carolina," Thompson said.

"It's never been about me; it's been about our country, the future of our country, and our parties role in that future," he said.
