The only Republican congressman from New York City has announced that he will not seek re-election.
It's the culmination of a troubling month for Representative Vito Fossella.
He was arrested for drunk driving May 1, and after that, he was forced to admit that he fathered a child out of an extramarital affair.
"This choice was an extremely difficult one, balanced between my dedication to service to our great nation and the need to concentrate on healing the wounds that I have caused to my wife and family," Fossella said in a statement on his congressional Web site.
It's just the latest in a series of retirements and resignations to hit the GOP.
Twenty-six Republican House members will not run again in 2008, and five senators have said they will also not seek re-election.
