A high-ranking Democrat and former Hillary Clinton supporter is now campaigning for John McCain.
Lynn Forester de Rothschild served on the Democratic National Committee's Platform Committee and raised over $100,000 for Clinton's presidential campaign.
She has said before she thinks Democratic nominee Barack Obama is arrogant and has a problem connecting with average Americans.
On Wednesday, she explained why she's now supporting a Republican for president.
"I think John McCain offers us a unique and exciting time to rid ourselves of both extremes in both parties," Rothschild said at a press conference in Washington.. "To me this is very exciting."
"I believe that Barack Obama, with Moveon.org and Howard Dean and Nancy Pelosi has taken the Democratic Party, and they will continue to, too far to the left. I'm not comfortable there," she said.
Rothschild is a member of the DNC's Democrats Abroad chapter and splits her time living in London and New York. She built a multimillion-dollar telecommunications company before marrying international banker Sir Evelyn de Rothschild.
Rothschild says she will step down from her DNC duties as she campaigns for McCain.
