The healthcare reform bill currently in Congress would reverse a law that restricts taxpayer money from being used to cover abortions.

Both sides of the issue are gearing up for a heated debate over the change.

Pro-life groups say the current restrictions should carry over to any new government supported health insurance.

Abortion rights supporters say it would deny abortion coverage to millions of women who now have it through private insurance.

The original Democratic health care legislation in the House and Senate did not mention abortion.
