Some lawmakers are using the Christmas day terror plot to urge President Obama to reconsider closing the Guantanamo Bay detention facility-- or at least stop releasing detainees to governments overseas.
According to reports at least two of those released to Yemen are now back in terrorist ranks plotting new attacks.
The Nigerian man behind the Christmas day plot said he received his bomb materials from terrorists in Yemen.
"Two of the people they released are apparently back leading al Qaeda in Yemen, as proof that you shouldn't release these terrorists," former House speaker Newt Gingrich said. "There are 74 former Guantanamo detainees who are now back, who are active."
"According to the government, there are 74 combatants who are fighting us who were at Guantanamo who we released," he continued.
Experts add that a stint in Guantanamo has become a mark of prestige and freed detainees are shooting back to the top of terrorist ranks.
