CBNNews.com - A group of mayors from around the country met in Washington today with a strong message for lawmakers still at odds over the stimulus bill, cities are hurting and people need to get back to work.
"We're at a point in our society with the individuals that we represent that they can't wait any longer," said Mayor Donald L. Plusquellic, Akron, Ohio.
"It may be fun and games up here for Senators to argue details and get down in the weeds. But just as mayors have to do in facing issues first hand, when snow hits we have to get it off the streets, we've got to get the garbage picked up, we have to respond to police and fire. There are immediate needs in our society right now and stop business as usual, but they need to present a piece of legislation that gets people back to work," he said.
