DeMint: Tough Choices to 'Save Freedom'

Ad Feedback

As the country's financial, social security, and health care systems hang in the balance, a growing number of Americans are looking to the government for solutions.

But Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., argues that this is a mistake.

He challenges Americans to make the tough decisions now in order to preserve their freedom in the future.

DeMint warns that Washington cannot have it both ways.

It cannot expand government's role in health care but promise affordable private insurance.

It cannot tax and regulate business but promise America will be a viable contender in the global economy.

It cannot curtail the development of fossil fuels but promise low-cost gas and electricity.

In his new book, "Saving Freedom," DeMint says that the United States has become a society willing to trade its freedom for the security of ever-growing federal control.

He warns that America is sliding towards socialism. And he says growing government dependency thwarts people's motivation to work and creates a victim-mentality.

DeMint contends that today's mindset goes against what our country was founded on.

America was not made great by legislative process or bailouts, he says. This country became great because her citizens were great.
