A source close to President Obama has confirmed a list of six Supreme Court nominees currently under review to replace Justice Souter.
The list is diverse and is dominated by women and Hispanics.
Among those being considered are U.S. Solicitor General Elena Kagan, Michigan governor Jennifer Granholm, Homeland Secretary Janet Napolitano, appeals court judges Sonia Sotomayor and Diane Pamela Wood,
and California Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno.
This is the first time a list has been released by someone with direct ties to the president.
Obama said he wants his nominee to be confirmed before Congress takes its August recess.
