Some policymakers in Washington are thinking about creating a national sales tax.
   
The move is being considered as a means to pay for massive budget deficits, and President Obama's trillion dollar government health care plan.

A national sales tax would raise prices on everything consumers buy, from groceries to clothes to legal services.
    
The Washington post reports the chairman of the Senate budget committee and a former fed chairman say the tax should be considered.
    
But the White House is playing down the unpopular idea
